Oh… this is good. This is so good.
I just happened across The Guild, a web video series starring Felicia Day that follows a group of online gamers. Even if you’re not a gamer (I can’t claim to be), the show is hilarious and worth watching.
Palin’s Resignation: The Edited Version July 28, 2009

Forget politics for a moment, and look at Sarah Palin’s July 3 resignation speech from a grammatical point of view. That’s what Vanity Fair’s editors did, and the results are hilarious — and sad.
From Vanity Fair:
Bonus: If that’s not enough, check out William Shatner on the Tonight Show, reciting a portion of Palin’s July 26 farewell speech. Priceless.

Several months back, in early May, I visited the Rural Studio for their end-of-term closing ceremonies and pig roast.
A program of Auburn University’s College of Architecture, Design and Construction, the Rural Studio is embedded in rural Hale County, Alabama. Throughout Hale County, the Rural Studio puts architecture students to work designing and building creative, low-cost, high-quality solutions to the needs of rural communities. Auburn/Rural Studio alumni Jessie and Britton led us on an amazing three-day tour of this special place.

Head over and check out A Low Impact Woodland Home — a beautifully crafted, organic, environmentally friendly house in Wales. Its approach to green building is about as far from LEED as you can get. Imagine how it would be to live in a house you had designed and built yourself, in four months, for only $5,000?
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort. — J.R.R. Tolkein

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince July 17, 2009

The newest Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, probably won’t need my endorsement in order to succeed at the box office. But anyway. Having gone to see it on Wednesday night, I can say that it was good. In fact, it was the best Harry Potter film yet; it felt like an artfully made movie rather than an awkward adaptation of a children’s book. The filmmakers struck just the right balance between funny – and it had some hilarious moments – and dark (everyone knows what happens, right? right??). The atmosphere is mysterious and magical without any of the cheesiness that plagued the first two movies and popped up occasionally since. So, if you haven’t already, go see this movie.
P.S. Read the book too. Call me a snob, but you absolutely need to read Harry Potter in addition to just seeing the movie. I don’t care which one happens first, but read the book. You can borrow my copy if you like.
P.P.S. Excited!
