The newest Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, probably won’t need my endorsement in order to succeed at the box office. But anyway. Having gone to see it on Wednesday night, I can say that it was good. In fact, it was the best Harry Potter film yet; it felt like an artfully made movie rather than an awkward adaptation of a children’s book. The filmmakers struck just the right balance between funny – and it had some hilarious moments – and dark (everyone knows what happens, right? right??). The atmosphere is mysterious and magical without any of the cheesiness that plagued the first two movies and popped up occasionally since. So, if you haven’t already, go see this movie.
P.S. Read the book too. Call me a snob, but you absolutely need to read Harry Potter in addition to just seeing the movie. I don’t care which one happens first, but read the book. You can borrow my copy if you like.
