BiLoXi Post

I’ve settled into scenic Sunset Creek– that is, the scenic trailer, named Sunset Creek, that is my temporary home here at the Salvation Army Volunteer Village in Biloxi. I’ll post some pictures of the trailer and the area later, but for now, here’s a picture of the SA’s home base, which occupies the space below a high school stadium bleachers; they’ve done a lot to make the place habitable.

The rest of these pictures are from the beach. I haven’t swum yet (sharks??) and it started raining minutes after these were taken. Ominous dark clouds– pretty much standard fare in the afternoon around here.

A seemingly abandoned boat? … I want …

An iconic souvenir shop, Sharkheads, as it stands two years after the storm:

Not sure what exactly happened to this tree, but it has, at some point, been Decapitated.

That wraps up this photographic tour; tips go in the collection basket. I’ll put together a more representative look at Biloxi later on. It’s an interesting place: run-down in places and largely destroyed in others, but also home to glitzy casinos and hotels, cozy little traditional houses, train tracks, commercial strips, and more. I’m looking forward to getting to know it. But I’m pretty sure I’ll also have to escape to New Orleans or Mobile every now and then.

  1. Stop being a little girl, the Sharks aren’t going to eat you.
